A Thousand Cranes
by Kathryn Schultz Miller
November 9 - November 17
A Thousand Cranes is the true story of Sadako Saski, who was 2 years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima, where she lived. A decade later, she is hospitalized with "radiation sickness", or leukemia. Her friend Kenji reminds her of the old story about the crane. If a sick person folds a thousand origami cranes, the gods will grant her wish, and make her healthy again. Sadako begins folding hundreds of beautiful, colorful paper cranes, but is unable to finish. Her friends and classmates finish folding the thousand cranes, and dream of buliding a monument to Sadako and all the children who were killed by the atomic bomb. The statue is unveiled in Hiroshima Peace Park, and every year on the anniversary of the bombing, the statue is adorned with thousands of paper cranes. Her wish is engraved on the base of the statue: "This is our cry, this is our prayer, peace in the world." Girl Scout badge workshops will be held the day of the performance, starting at 10 AM. Badge workshops include the cost of one ticket. Presented by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company, of Woodstock, Illinois.

Mercy Watson to the Rescue
by Victoria Stewart
Based on the books by Kate DiCamillo May 3 - May 11
Mr. and Mrs. Watson think that 54 Deckawoo Drive will be the perfect home for their family–especially their beloved Mercy. But when Eugenia Lincoln gets wind that her new neighbor is a P-I-G (or a porcine wonder, depending on your point of view), Eugenia stirs up trouble of the most hilarious sort. Mercy Watson to the Rescue has a little comic mayhem, inadvertent heroism, and, of course, hot buttered toast. Presented by special arrangement with Plays For New Audiences, A Division of Children's Theatre Company.
